Insurance companies have been processing claims longer than those reading this have been alive and know all the tricks of the trade. Involved in two collisions where I had the opportunity to put the strategies presented in this book to work. On both occasions, the process worked well up until the negotiations. Needless to say, I had to hire attorneys for both collisions and to file civil suits.

I highly recommend this book!I sustained injuries in a car accident. I had no knowledge or experience dealing with insurance claims. I was concerned about dealing with the insurance adjuster, feeling like an amateur competing against a seasoned professional.I bought this book a few weeks after the accident. It was EXTREMELY helpful in understanding the "system" - general background, role of each player, process, typical timeline, examples, suggestions of "good ideas vs bad ideas," etc. This book pointed out a number of traps to avoid and saved me from just going along with what SEEMED like reasonable suggestions from the insurance adjuster. After 3 months, I hired an attorney, realizing from this book that I could not handle the situation on my own.My only regret is that I did not find this book the day after the accident. It would have saved me some sleepless nights.

This book was ok. However, it was so vague that if you have anything other than a minor car accident, this book is not worth it. My wife was involved in a major car accident and we were looking for advice on reaching a fair and honest appraisal of damages for injury. This did not help us value what a good settlement is. So, for anything complex, the book basically is worthless.

I was really glad to get this book shortly after I was in an accident. It gave me a really good picture of a personal injury claim: what it is (and is not), what would be a fair amount to expect for my injuries, and how to communicate with the insurance company. Actually, I wish I'd had it to review BEFORE my first phone conversations with the insurance company, as it gives some good advice for those crucial first conversations.

I was rear-ended in 2010 just 18 days after I purchased a brand new car. This car immediately lost its value and I was injured in the crash. I could have hired an attorney to settle my claim, but I first wanted to see what it might be worth and how the system worked. This book was extremely helpful. I was able to successfully resolve the property damage claim for a reasonable amount and the bodily injury claim as well all without hiring an attorney. The book has a lot of good advice and sample letters to assist in writing claims and what to do to negotiate or further pursue the claim after the first few settlement offers. This book, along with a lot of patience, was very helpful in my settling my own claim. I'm very glad I purchased it.

this was a magnificent book. the reason i gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it is NOT a history of the wars of the roses. it only covers the period of lancaster vs york. however, it covered this in a complete manner, going back to the roots of the war during the reign of richard ii (many books start much later. you lose some of the causes and influences that way. good for red roses, bad for white roses). who, how, why he was disposed of his rule and who took the kingship is crucial to understanding the later claims of york over lancaster.add-in note - i was just reading another book that started in 1420. when it got to a clash between gloucester and a beaufort, there was a quick note about who they were, but not nearly enough context to understand it, unless you know the subjet well already.. with this book, you have the context the understand who the bueaforts are and why they are reallllly important, as well why there would be contention around them. --- end notethe author concentrates on the people and their motivations, rather than just the mind-numbing actions. the corruption of the councils during the two minority kingships, the struggles of the power groups, the influence of france and burgundy, the reform movements that failed due to queen margaret, etc. one ends up knowing the main flow of events and why things occured as they did.ps - you need to print out the genealogy charts. you can't keep track of the players and their interrelationships without a score card. her charts have been simplified over most charts one sees, so that you can see what's going on easily.

One of the best history books I've read in a while, and I read a lot! The author hit the perfect balance of content with readability. Doesn't get too bogged down in detail yet covers all the bases. The subject can be a very confusing one, with all the various names and Titles becoming tedious at times. But Weir handles this beautifully and I rarely found myself having to go back and re-read a portion like I do with other books on this period. Excellent background story on King Richard II and the lead up to the wars. I can't believe how much great detail on the character's lives she was able to include. She makes the connection between characters. She seemed to answer every question I could have thought to ask. What was the motivation of these people? What in their background made them this way? She avoids the overly academic dull prose and gets straight to the point. She avoids the impulse of many history writers to write mainly to impress their peers. Instead it is beautifully written, flows along in a logical manner, and makes for a book even non-history buffs might want to read. My only complaint is that the book ends with the reign of Edward IV and we don't get to hear more about Richard III, because I bet she would do a wonderful job with that as well.

While I'd always been aware of the so-called Wars of the Roses in British history (I knew it was the Yorks and the Lancasters and it finally ended for good when the two houses intermarried and formed the House of Tudor), it doesn't tend to be taught in American schools. Which is why it's perfect that Alison Weir has a whole book just about that period in English history: The Wars of the Roses.It's a confusing story, to be sure: it seems like virtually every man in it is named Edward, Richard, or Henry, and they're all related to each other, besides. But Weir does her best to distinguish each of them, and she traces the conflicts not just from the point that they formally began, but from the point where they are rooted. The fighting doesn't get started until about halfway through, but it would be well nigh impossible to understand without all the preamble. She sets her stage carefully, and, much to my relief, when the fighting begins, it doesn't turn into a straight blow-by-blow battle narrative. I find descriptions of war maneuvers to be boring beyond measure, but Weir tells us enough to give us a sense of the battles but not make us feel like we're sitting through a military history lecture.As always in Weir's work, it's well-sourced (she uses sources contemporary to the events being described, and traces language use back to ensure that she's giving the proper context to what was being reported) and well-written, with a definite sense of narrative and not just fact-dumping. One minor quibble, though, with this book is that it doesn't quite see the Wars through to what I thought to be their end: the ascension of Henry VII and his marriage to Princess Elizabeth of York. While I was hoping to get a bit more information about the end stages of the Wars, I definitely enjoyed getting Weir's take on the period she covered, and would recommend the book to others curious about this period of English history.

Finally, a book that makes sense of the Wars of the Roses! Turns out that the whole thing - that convulsed England, Wales, and Scotland for decades - was about the macho pride of about 70 people, the very high nobility. Weir does everyone a favor by giving genealogical charts of the major families involved; I bookmarked them on my Kindle, because it was helpful to refer to them often. Part of the problem, of course, is that one person could be known by 1) his real name, 2) as Duke Somethingorother, 3) as Count Somethingelse, or as Bishop/Archbishop Evensomethingdifferent. One more table giving all the different names borne by an individual, would have been very helpful. Otherwise, the writing is clear, even vivid, and the author sets the motivations of the various characters firmly in context, giving some sense to what at first glance can be an impenetrable thicket of battles, plots, and treachery. Good book, well worth a read. This book covers only the first half of the wars and the Yorkist high point; now I need to go get the author's book on the second half, which covers the eventual triumph of the Lancastrians in the person of Henry VII (who was initially ignored by the Lancastrians - what a mess!)

About the Author

David A. Jobes, PhD, ABPP, is Professor of Psychology and Associate Director of Clinical Training at The Catholic University of America. He is also Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry in the School of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. With research interests in suicidology for over 30 years, he has published extensively in the field and routinely conducts professional training in clinical suicidology, professional ethics, and risk management. Dr. Jobes has served as a consultant to the Department of Defense, Veterans Affairs, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences. A past president of the American Association of Suicidology (AAS), he serves on the Scientific Council and Public Policy Council of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. His work has been recognized with the Marsha Linehan Award for Outstanding Research in the Treatment of Suicidal Behavior and the Louis I. Dublin Award for Career Contribution to Suicide Prevention from the AAS, among other honors.  Dr. Jobes is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and is board certified in clinical psychology. This is a good book to have as an adjunct to the CAMS training (although not required). It provides context, research and in depth explanations of this intervention, as well as clinical examples. The only complaint I have; in the parts that include clinician scripts/suggested language, the speaking/reading level is way above the accessible fifth grade level suitable for most of the population I work with. It proved highly effective and the best possible way to track elements of risk, while also working toward the relevant goals for choosing to live. This was masterful and research based practice addressing risk to suicide specifically, while including a collaborative stabilization plan.

I was so excited to get my second edition of this book. The first edition was an awesome learning experience for me and I did not believe it could be improved upon. Yet, Dr. Jobes has taken it to another level! His voice in the book is eloquent and reads as if he was sitting right there with you. This amazing intervention has many decades of research supporting it and should be in every clinician’s repertoire of evidenced based interventions. CAMS’s collaborative approach allows the patient and therapist to communicate honestly and openly without fear. CAMS is comprehensive and easy to learn! I encourage all who work in the helping field to purchase this book and attend Dr. Jobes training’s… it has saved and will continue to save many lives in the future.

I got this for my Suicidology class and have to say I really like the CAMS format! Very easy to follow and the book is good at explaining different aspects of it and why you should say one thing or another.

I purchased this product for a co-worker that was leaving the company. The jokes are clean and funny. The packaging did come damaged but it wasn't enough that I had to return the product.

I liked the 2018 calendar. It was great. Would NOT have purchased the 2019 one if I had know the jokes were going to be exactly the same. They just move the jokes around.Edit: Only SOME of the jokes are the same. Perhaps even MOST, but definitely not ALL. There are definitely some new ones, and they're pretty great.
