I developed really intense RSI symptoms in my both forearms. I could not type, click a mouse, or scroll on a phone. This book gave me hope as it was discussing symptoms I could relate to and no one else knew what the heck was going on. Ultimately though I got relief and good treatment from finding a good physical therapist.Just want to share some general experience, as I felt so lost when I was experiencing symptoms at their worst: If a PT or OT hasn't been able to help you, go see another one. The first PT I saw only focused on where the symptoms were expressing (forearms). I got no relief. Then I saw an OT who understood that the cause was coming from higher up in my body (since the pain was bilateral). I see another PT today who is able to help me manage symptoms.Ultimately, our symptoms can be similar but the cause can vary. What I found out for MY condition, is nerve compression and muscles that react different from repetitive use. I focus on strengthening my scapula and stretching my pecs and neck. Working with a PT has taught my how to release entrapt nerves from muscles and how to mange the condition. Many of the exercises I do were mentioned in the book, but now I know which ones are most necessary for my body. I still cannot use a mouse normally, but I can type and scroll on a phone again. I use two mice now (one to "drive" and a trackball to tap the clicker with my fist). I might not ever return to normal, but I feel like I can manage the condition now. FIND A GOOD PT OR OT!

I bought this book back in college when I was struggling with RSI. I tried physical therapy, I wore a wrist brace, I stopped doing the activities that I liked including piano, and I couldn't chop anything in the kitchen because of the pain. I ended up with no relief, but once I stumbled upon a website talking about Dr. John Sarno and a mindbody approach, which he called TMS at that time, and I healed within weeks. Dr. Sarno has since passed away but the neuroscience is developing, and packaged into an app called Curable. I urge you if you are not finding meaningful relief to check out the findings in that area.

I've been suffering from hand pain for the past 4 months. My orthopedist said it was an inflamation and gave me some unhelpful medications. When someone recommended me about this book I was sceptical because I thought "oh, I have an inflammation, what does RSI have to do with it?". I was so desperate that I bought it anyway. This is honestly the best book I've ever read - it has ALL the information there is to know about your hand pain - basic anatomy, ergonomics, posture, recommended therapies and self-help exercises you could do at home. It was written in 2000, but I believe it is still relevant and in addition, the book refers to online sources about new information available about RSI. Beyond everything - this book just gave me a high motivation to treat myself full-time and to not accept the hand-pain situation as given.I could not recommend it more. Do yourself a favour and order one now.

This book has literally changed my life. I felt so lost after a diagnosis of Carpal Tunnel. The PTs I worked with knew it was RSI, but never told me (probably because of some liability reason). They also didn't give me exercises that I could do at home, without all their complex devices. I chanced upon this book at my local library after I was "discharged" from worker's compensation, still in pain, and totally clueless as to what to do next. Because of this book, I have stopped focusing on just the parts that hurt, and see the bigger picture. I also felt so validated to hear about other people's struggles and fears. I hope others will find this book as helpful as I have. My quality of life is so much better, and Im getting healthier every day.

A friend recommended this book when I started to complain of wrist and arm pain from working on the computer keyboard. I have been working on computers for over 20 plus years and never once had problems with my hands, wrists, etc. It was frightening to think I might not be able to do my work in the short term or the long term. This book gave me a completely new way to look at and address the problems I was having. The first thing it made me realize was that my compulsive overworking was finally taking a toll on me and that if I didn't make some changes, it was going to get worse. I have no interest in going on disability, so I took every word seriously and made many changes in my work habits. I still work full-time and in less than 6 months, my wrist and arm pain has diminished significantly. It is not completely gone, but it is now my gauge as to when I am overdoing. I haven't even done everything in the book perfectly, but it was the key to my making the changes I needed to make. Highly recommend this to anyone suffering with wrist/hand/arm pain from keyboard and mouse use.
