I found this book to be utterly useless and severely lacking in editing. For a book that offers advice on fishing it's remarkable that the first 30+ pages offers NO advice (other than generalities like be patient and you'll soon catch the big one). The author keeps emphasizing the importance of understanding the habitat and eating patterns etc. but offers literally no clues on how to go about doing that.Most of the advice reads like "throw your hook where the fish is". Really? You sure?The advice on equipment is in nutshell (summarizing page after page of drivel) "no equipment is right for everyone so just get something you like". That's real helpful advice right there.In addition the author constantly encourages the reader to be "adaptive" and "be prepared and think outside the box". Ok, thanks I'll do that.In addition, the book has apparently had no editing. For example, the (cryptic) explanation of what a Carolina Rig is reads "very similar to a Texas rig". You find out what a Texas rig is multiple pages later. Typos and elementary grammar errors are all over the place - like "fish are move when they feed".The book also has no illustrations of technical details (other than pictures of people with great looking fish - gursss they purchased another fishing guide).There are however some real pearls of wisdom here. For example, the "glossary to bass fishing" offers a definition of "adaptation" as "action that increases the ability to survive". As the author highlights fifteen times, that a skill all bass fishermen need. As do readers of this book.

Added bonus that I didn't realize before purchase: Not only does it contain the usual holiday markers (Labor Day, Christmas, President's Day, etc.), but important Hamiltonian dates are also marked (the birthdays and deathdays of Hamilton, Washington, Burr, etc., Alexander and Eliza's anniversary, and so on).

It's a Hamilton Calendar...what else do you need to know? Whether you're a fan or not, this calendar looks beautiful and has direct quotes from the songs on each month along with the actor that sung them. This also includes the last 4 months of 2016 (all on 1 page). If you're looking for a piece of this beautiful musical, don't throw away your shot on getting this calendar.

I AM NOT THROWING AWAY MY SHOT!

Sadly This is just way too small for my wall. I should have paid attention to see if the measurements were listed. The paper quality is also very poor. there are several pages that have parts of the picture worn away or not printed properly. The boxes are super small and I can't fit everything I want to write in them. Last complaint is that there is no hole on it to hang it up. I had to make my own using a nail since I don't have a hole puncher. :( I will be on the look out for a new calendar now.

While thoroughly researched, this book is somewhat carelessly composed, with the author repeating entire passages in multiple chapters. The first time I encountered this I suspected I had perhaps read ahead, but it happens repeatedly throughout the book, either suggesting poor editing or an attempt to lengthen the chapters. There are other books that do a more thorough and scholarly job of documenting what is without doubt a fascinating location that was central to the history of France; I'd suggest those over this book.

If you wished to know how the Palace of Versailles came to be built and the manner in which the occupants lived there, this is the book for you. If you want a book written by an excellent writer whose "charm" infuses the writing, this is the book for you. The conventional historical details are given in the order of events.Beyond this, there are snapshots of the actual lives lived within the Palace in each era and phase of its construction. The author has created a well crafted tapestry of documentation based on actual diary and journal writings of the period. In this way,one can appreciate a fully fleshed set of images and human sensibilities. For those who have a special interest in French Eighteenth Century History in general and a desire to know more of an indepth "portrait" of the actual characters and those who worked for them and how they lived specifically, this volume will be enormously enriching. Finally, the author is first-rate. This is not a fluff or coffee table book. It is also very acessable and not scholarly to the point of being a cool calculated breakdown of events. The author has an elegant sense of humor and some related "tidbits" should be amusing to the reader. For example, not many books on Versailles tell you about the "bathroom facilities" or where everyone lived in the Palace if you were not the King or Queen themselves. My most marked response is having a sense of the "personalities" of the actual people of the period. My most delightful response was having a sense of the "personality" of the writer, who seems happy to relate the story and never to be pedantic. I felt I had spent a lovely time with him in a quiet place and shared in his extraordinay knowledge of his subject. I loved this book and hated for it to end. I would purchase anything written by Tony Spawforth. I would love to meet him. When writing is this good you feel uplifted and pleased not to have wasted a single minute of your time.Thomas Lee Randleman

This is not a "coffee table" picturebook of Versailles. There are plenty of those to be had. What's been missing from the literature on this subject has been a book that explains the workings of the palace, its social and political context and the routines and rhythms of day-to-day life in what was, essentially, an enormous gilded cage for the French nobility. This book begins to fill that niche. My only complaint would be that the author could have included a few more architectural drawings to illustrate the evolution of the palace and the changing arrangement of rooms over the reigns of the three kings of France who lived in Versailles. These developments are discussed in interesting detail, but the effect is diminished without a visual to assist the reader. Overall, a very good and interesting read.

I usually donâ€™t read this type of reading but I really enjoyed this book. The writing was very descriptive and it kept my attention.I would highly recommend this book for history lovers and people who would like to read something different.

Being crazy about Versailles, and fascinated by all things related to that era, I thought I would be in love with this book, but there were several chapters that were seriously dry reads. I was expecting more "behind the scenes" palace intrigue, and got a lot more geography of the actually building construction than I was personally interested in. I think I know a lot more about the palace now--which was my goal before taking our trip, but I probably could have skimmed a few chapters (as I had purchased many books to read, and this one slowed me down a bit). I do believe it to be a well-researched book, that examines the palace (and surrounding village) with great attention to detail.

What a wonderful read! Loved knowing more about a fascinating place that has changed over and over in its rather short life.

A well-written history of the building and various remodeling efforts undertaken at Versailles, this book managed on a several occasions to prove interesting. However, I found the amount of detail on the actual construction of the palace to be, on the whole, rather meager; greater emphasis was devoted to the ridiculous court etiquette. As noted in the book, there were a a few occasions where court etiquette necessitated a quirky floor plan or structural modification to the palace, but on the whole the emphasis on etiquette seemed odd. Also, strangely, the history of the palace after the revolution, particularly int he 19th century during which most of the modifications were made to the palace in its transition to a museum and conceivably better documented, were glossed over.Warning to fellow e-book readers - there were no illustrations and the formatting/footnotes were useless. There were also a myriad of typos and punctuation errors, which I presume happened during the translation into an electronic format.Lastly, I laughed-out-loud when the author lamented that Versailles is a victim of global warming, because a 200+ year-old tree planted by Marie Antoinette was felled by a recent windstorm. Um...old trees have been toppled by wind since there were old trees and wind.

I enjoyed these books. I read the two of them straight thru. I am catching up on other books then will be reading more Elleby Harper books. I recommend these book to anyone who enjoys crime, mysteries or thriller books.

Good story lines, fascinating characters, waiting to read more.

Book 2Bex is involved with a sex slave case this time that is very close to home. One of her officers two daughters have left school for summer break, their school bus has been hijacked and has disappeared. Since Bex had just finished her officer's training class, she technically was not on the case, it was to be handled by Officer Quinn, one thing leading to another and Bex is right in the middle of the situation along with Quinn's ex-wife, another thriller you can't put down.Book 3Isla and Bex seem to have a large part in this story. Isla has to cover for a member of her law office in closing a case in court, what seems to be an easy task, with just sentencing left to be determined, Isla doesn't quite feel right about the outcome and wants to look into the charges closer.Harvey has been charged with murdering his parents on Halloween Eve, why? He confesses but something isn't right!!! A must read.

A parent's nightmare, action packed with twists and turns to keep you guessing. Very enjoyable read.

I picked up book one of this series in a promotion so when I was offered the chance to grab this set for free and asked my opinion I was thrilled to give it as these books are great. Book one introduces us to Bex Wynter, recent widow and NYPD Detective as she swaps sides of the Atlantic and joins the London Metropolitan Police. There's some tough moments ahead for her without the added pressure of learning to live in, and understand, a new country. The series progresses nicely with character growth from both her and her team at the Metropolitan Police. I like the evolution of the characters and the way each book works as part of the whole as well as a stand alone book. I always try to not give away any plot spoilers so reviewing a box set can be tricky. If you've looked at this set because you've read book one then this is a great addition to your library. I think each book gets better than the ones before. If on the other hand you're new to Bex Wynter and her collegues this is a great police procedural with an interesting twist with the character being a 'fish out of water' as she's new to Britain. The best recommendation for any book or author is would you read more in the series? Well in this case I will answer with an emphatic yes!

I live in the UK and have visited quite a few of the pubs & bars in this book particularly in Oregon and California, other parts of the U.S i've never visited, some places i'll probably never visit but i found the book a great read, very informative and a volume that i'll probably carry with me on my next trip to the USA.The authors research must have been very hard work! All states are visited though beer centers like California and Oregon get more coverage than say Ohio or Nebraska (1 page each). It's the authors personal choice of bars and pubs so you may or may not agree with his choice but as the author states in his introduction the book is intended as a starting point for your beer exploration. The book has 360+ pages good use of spot colour and the format is easy to read, the guide is plit into regions, i.e the Pacific North West, the Midwest,etc and by State and town or city.The book makes a good companion piece to Lisa Morrison's Craft Beers of the Pacific North West and i'd recommend both books to beer drinkers everywhere, just have a good beer while you read!Craft Beers of the Pacific Northwest: A Beer Lover's Guide to Oregon, Washington, and British ColumbiaThe Great American Ale Trail: The Craft Beer Lover's Guide to the Best Watering Holes in the Nation

What's not to love: a well-written independent guide that considers the crazy-large production of beer in this country. We keep a copy for local exploring, and give it as a much-appreciated gift to friends (young and older).

I like the organization of the book, I am planning a road trip to the Southwest right now and use this based on where I'll be for the night to plan on what breweries to visit. I feel like there are some breweries missing (but I'm sure that no one could possibly include all the good breweries without leaving some out and offending some beer snobs) and I would love some pictures, but other than that it's very helpful.

This book made a good present for my friend who introduced me to the world of craft beer by taking me to GABF. Will the incredible growth of the craft beer market this book was almost outdated as soon as it was printed. Despite this, it lists some iconic craft breweries around the nation.

I'm a graphic designer, and to be honest, half of the reason I bought this book was because when I did the 'look inside' feature, the page layouts were designed amazingly... the other half was in hopes that the actual content would be good, which... it was! It's a really trendy and great book for anyone who likes to visit breweries when traveling. And even if you don't get to travel that much, it gives you some insight into good breweries around the country

This book has craft breweries and craft brewpubs for (almost) every state. The author tells you about the "vibe" of each location, and what he considers their best beer. He missed a few places I've been to, but hey you can't hit every place. Overall, a fun read.

I do not know why it took me so long to find Robert Moss...This is one of the two latest in an excellent series of books that began with Conscious Dreaming....which is such good material, it really would logically be first...I AM reading that one slowly too, but I jumped in first with Dream Gates (wow, juicy), and love this one which I am reading in parallel. It is really hard to go wrong if you are into Active Imagination (see also Robert Johnson), or dream work, or even out of body and "lucid dreaming" (Robert prefers the term "Conscious Dreaming)....Wish I had found this author a long time ago....but if you are new to this stuff, just jump on in!

When I started my own journey of becoming a dreamer my life began to open up in unexpected ways. I learned new ways of living and I began to move toward a life that I wanted and cared about deeply. When I encountered Robert's active dreaming approach my relationship to dreaming shifted into higher gear. My moonstruck artist side loved the way that my imagination broadened and deepened. My practical engineer side loved the way that Robert taught me to test my experience and explore my dream worlds. But all the parts of me loved the way that Robert showed me techniques for getting at the energy of my dreaming and using it out in our waking world. This is great stuff! You already have many of the tools you need and Robert will show you many effective ways to wield them for the benefit of yourself and those around you.Robert is a masterful story teller and an impeccable scholar and historian. He uses those abilities to draw a picture for you of some aspect of dreaming or imagination and then the teacher and explorer side shows you new approaches that have been tested by himself and the many dreamers he works with. I love the subtitle of the book but if it were my choice I'd add something about bringing passion and unlimited adventure into that life of wild freedom. Live your dreams for a while and let your imagination blossom and grow. If you are a dreamer and ready to dive deeper you owe it to yourself to investigate Robert's books and this is an excellent one to start with or to carry forward your own wild adventures. Dream well!

This latest book is Robert Moss at his best, offering an adventure book on dreaming that is accessible to the newest dreamer, yet valuable to the seasoned practitioner of dreamwork. Full of stories and examples of how dreams have changed people's lives, the book includes new games as well as detailed instructions to many of Moss' dream workshop exercises. All that is missing is a dream group to practise them with, so Moss outlines how to start a dream group of one's own.Something new in this volume is a chapter on working with children and their dreams. Moss offers nine keys to helping children access the power of their dreams, concluding with instruction on what NOT to do with a child's dream. Never say it is "just" a dream, and never try to interpret a child's dream.Many people ask how to become a lucid dreamer, that is, how can we wake up inside our dreams and do whatever we want. Like Robert Moss, I do not seek so-called lucid dreaming. As he puts it, "The easiest way to become a lucid, or conscious, dreamer is to start out lucid and stay that way: in other words, to enter conscious dreaming from a waking or semi-conscious state" (p. 49). This is the essence of Moss' work, to teach us how to dream while awake.As I read this book, I knew I would be back into it many times, to find inspiration and instruction for my own dream adventures. Meanwhile, I was jotting down thoughts and quotes for further research and contemplation inside my journal.Thank you, Robert, for another excellent read.

I love Robert Moss's books -- always filled with great tips, stories and synchronicities. It's uncanny how something odd that just happened in my life will show up in the next couple pages of a Robert Moss book.

Robert Moss has written more than a few books on dreaming, but I think no one will disagree that this is one of the best, if not THE best. I've read, I think, all of the previous ones, and this one takes one a good deal further along the road. I've already incorporated some of the techniques in this book into my dream practice, which was already heavily influenced by the previous ones.His take on lucid dreaming was of great interest. It's very very hard to take control of ones nighttime dreams, and Moss seems to consider this both unnecessary and of potential harm. I've had some great lucid dreams, the greatest being triggered on spiritual journeys to "power places", specifically Teotihuacan and Lake Titicaca. Those were great and empowering dreams, but going into dreaming from an awakened state with accompanying shamanic drumming, or just a really powerful spontaneous daydream are also empowering ways to dream.If the reader is not conversant with this world he or she will probably be amazed at the nonchalance with which Moss describes shared or communal dreams. The first time I shared in such a dream it completely shattered what was left of my mainstream worldview. By pre-arrangement I met my friend Nicole on top of the Pyramid of the Sun, a place with which we were both familiar. The plan was to merge the hands of our energy bodies, which we did, but then I was filled with a feeling of joy and peace which transcended my expectations. Later I called her and told her what I had felt. She cracked up. I exclaimed, "You merged completely." She said, "I couldn't help myself." There it is. We met by prearrangement, but she did something totally unexpected and I got it immediately.Don't want to go on too long about personal experiences, except that they are available to all, and Moss can teach you how to get there.

I saw our music teacher with this book and wanted one for myself to use in our elementary art classses. It is a wonderful Arts Integration book.

This is one of the most beautiful instructional books I have ever read. The author is clearly a person who truly loves children. Through her appreciation for the arts and her understanding of how children learn best she helps bring out the artist in each one of them. Looking at the pictures made me realize how lucky these children are to be with someone who encourages them to express their unique personalities and talents.I am a music teacher, a mother and grandmother and I am very inspired by this work.

Not much help for those staying exclusively in Estes Park and visiting Rocky Mountain National Park. What little info there was about Estes Park wasn't all that much help. I did find a couple resturants that I hadn't seen in other sources but that was it.

A wonderful book for anyone living in or visiting Boulder, CO. No matter what your interests may be, you will find information in this book. I highly recommend it.

There are only 2 maps and no photos at all. Yes, there are lots of listings and it includes web sites, but it's just that--listings and more listings. It's just not as compelling or interesting as other guides out there.One thing I dislike is the typography: the text is so fine and faint that it can be difficult to read. Were they trying to save on ink costs? It's funny that they actually credit the book designer! She should be fired. I also saw the guide to Denver. Same comments go for that book, though this one is a bit better, thus 3 stars.

THE INSIDERS' GUIDE TO BOULDER AND ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, 9TH EDITION is a great book about the city of Boulder, its suburbs, and Rocky Mountain National Park. The "Relocation" section shows both the city of Boulder and its suburbs to be both wealthier and more socially and politically liberal than Denver and its environs, and can steer you to areas where, if you blast music by singers who don't have perfect skin, you won't get busted, a problem which is common in some of Denver's suburbs. It also shows that Boulder and its environs are willing to vote for a female political candidate with problem skin, which people in the suburbs of Denver generally don't do, unless the candidate is pro-gun. Overall, this book shows Boulder to be to the left of Denver, especially in its tolerance of different cultures, so the "Dining" and "Nightlife" sections are also incredible, as is the section on Rocky Mountain National Park, which warns you that speech patterns such as perseveration and repetitive questions will likely draw wolves and wildcats towards you, as well as describing the natural beauty of the park. Overall, this book is a comprehensive guide to Boulder, its suburbs, and Rocky Mountain National Park.
