Not very helpful. It does not teach you pharmacology they way you should know it. If you want to have a strong foundation in pharmacology do not get this book. I have been using Katzung & Trevor's Pharmacology Examination and Board Review ( ISBN-13: 978-1259255335 ). I also own the textbook and yes is was written for medical students but it is a five star book. In my opinion Katzung is more straight forward and gets right to the point unlike the Woo text. If you are an NP student, trust me you will love Katzung, It really is an amazing book.

Let me start by saying I don't typically write reviews, however given the poor quality of this textbook I felt obligated to warn others. This book is full of contradictions, even as close as one to two paragraphs apart. There are numerous spelling errors and it is very difficult to follow, as the authors tend to jump all over the place. Numerous medications are spelled incorrectly throughout the book (for example see page 580 miglitol vs. meglitol, page 182 tamsulosin vs. tamulosin). Not a huge deal but it is very annoying. If this wasn't a required text I would have requested a refund after reading chapter one. My apologies to the authors, but perhaps another edition would bring with it improvements.

The online resourses are a waste of time, a few case studies and 5 videos that will not work. The book is poorly written and organized. The first page of the introduction tells how patients would rather go to nurse practitioners than physician assistants because NPs spend more time teaching. I work with 3 wonderful PAs, who all encouraged me to persue my NP, why would you write about your peers in such a way. I continually have to research my own material to ensure I have the most current information as I have found many of their resources over 20 years old, one was over 30 years old. I had to waste my money on this book because it was a requirement for my class.

Online resources are terribly lacking. Power points and practice questions are locked away under an instructor code. The text itself has very few illustrations with mid-1990's graphics. Quality text books use illustrations to enhance and promote learning. Bullet points and margin notations for emphasis. An endless list of techniques to promote assimilation of material. The reader is clunky and miserable. I will avoid all future Davis purchases. Glad I rented this instead of buying it, however it is unlikely to be even worth the rental price.

This book is very poorly written. It is very disorganized and does not present the information in a clear way. There are also discrepancies in the information presented in different chapters.

TERRIBLE! Confusing. It's informative at first, then the sections just mentions many other drugs and things to note randomly all throughout, not organized well at all

I hate textbooks, and I hate physical textbooks even more. I had to order a physical textbook because my graduate program required it if I wanted to use it for open book (yay) quizzes and tests. However, for reading personally I would rather lug around my computer than a ten pound textbook and with the new copy of this book, I got an access code that allowed me to download the ebook via vitalsource bookshelf for much less than the price of the e-book. I also received the book with one day shipping. I find it pretty easy to read along as well.

Only purchased this textbook as a requirement of my graduate pharmacology course and it is one of the most difficult resources I have used. Information just doesn't seem to be presented in a straightforward manor and I'm left feeling like I have to interpret what the authors are trying to teach me like it's another language. I purchased additional resources that are MUCH better at explaining concepts. If given another option I would not pick this text.

I had hope for this book, since the topic is fascinating and I very much enjoyed her TV documentary about black holes. But the book was a disappointment: what began as a rather coherent overview of physics and the search for a single theory, mixed with some somewhat interesting life reflections, degenerated into confused personal rambling and endless pages about topology that was dry and uninteresting. The central question she addresses is whether the Universe is finite; but most of what she has to say consists of innumerable variations of why we don’t know. Overall, her treatment of these fascinating topics is just not that interesting, and while there are some original thoughts and good phrases here and there, they're lost in the rambling detail and many, often uninformative figures. Perhaps physicists find her lengthy stream of consciousness about topology and the curvature of the Universe compelling; I doubt most general readers would.

After listening to an interview with Janna Levin on the NPR program Speaking of Faith, I became interested in reading her books. Levin is an astrophysicist and author interested in sharing her interest in topics from quantum mechanics to a Theory of Everything.In the book How the Universe Got Its Spots, Levin uses a diary/letter style to explain contemporary theoretical physics in a way that is accessible to a layperson like me. She weaves the science through stories from everyday life. Her engaging writing style and excellent examples makes complex topics such as Einstein's theories easier to understand. It's interesting to learn how much we know and how much we still don't know about our universe. Is the universe finite or infinite? We really don't know.One of the most amazing aspects of the book is her interest in cosmic archaeology which examines the patterns of hot spots left over from the big bang. I was also fascinated by her explanations of topology and geometry of the universe. I've always been interested in the idea of more than three dimensions, but it wasn't until I read this book that I began to understand how these other dimensions might work.It's been nearly a decade since this book was written. I look forward to reading her newer, award-winning book titled A Madman Dreams of Turing Machines.Here's one of my favorite quotes from the book:“…there are no walls built in the human mind making some of us scientists and some of us artist. They are branches of the same tree, rooted in a common human essence. Maybe it’s our ability to step between the different disciplines, weaving strange loops all the while, that’s the core of our creativity.” (p. 193)

Very disappointing. I LOVED Janna Levin's "Moth" storytelling story, and her other TED Talks, etc. So I was surprised when I got her book just how unreadable it is. The narrative does not flow, and instead jumps from the day-to-day and interpersonal, to the cosmic, but without fully pursuing either. So it feels jumbled and jumpy--neither one becomes a satisfying narrative arc.

OK this book is written differently than most other physics or science books I've read. Its not all fact after fact and science science science. The book is written like a journal, with stories about the author's personal life mixed in with her science exploits. So be prepared for that! But the writing is good and the science and math is fun to learn about. Honestly, I had to get about a third of the way through the book before I fully accepted the fact that this book is different. But I didn't want to put it down, kept me up late at night many times finishing the read. Thanks Janna Levin!

Not being either a mathematician or a physicist, this was a heavy challenge for me, but the author does such a good job of alleviating these parts with her human interest story, as well as with charts and graphics, that I was very glad I persevered. Very provocative as to origins.

Engaging short letters explaining the universe. Painless, entertaining learning about what often is a dreary rendering of a fascinating topic.The audio book is excellent as is the printed book. Both make the subject intimate and personal.

Janna Levin has a gift for explaining complex ideas. She intersperses a fair amount of personal anecdote, which makes the book more interesting. The personal reflections do not detract from the science. Rather, these reflections help craft a narrative lens and move the book forward.

You may not understand all of the content, but you are left with the sense of it. Exciting stuff.

As a congregational rabbi, there were many good lessons that I took from Warren's model of church leadership and organization. Not all of the mission of his type of church is translatable to synagogue life. Though, I believe there is more that is similar than different.His outline of types of churches is extraordinarily helpful. There are all different types of congregations, from the learning congregation to the praying congregation. In reality, our houses of worship are amalgamations of all sorts of personality types. That being said, we get into trouble when we do not have clarity about who we are, and by what we are driven. Here enters the purpose. To first define our purposes and then to drive with those right up front changes the conversation we're having. No longer do we have to feel like we're keeping up with the congregation down the street. Rather, we can be comfortable in our own skin. We know who we are and why we exist. That gives a new sense of freedom and an ability to be creative.Warren's book is clearly written, and has lots of great practical advice. What I loved about it was that he brought together lots of different ideas that I have seen echoed in other texts. This would also be a great resource for congregational lay leaders, not just rabbis and pastors.

Have you ever had the burden to start up a new church, but don't know how? Have you ever wondered if there were things you can do to better service the church? Have you ever wondered about new ways to attract people and make them feel welcome? Is the place where you meet in shambles and you want to do something to turn it around? Purpose Driven Church will answer all these questions and more. The thing I like most is that the title says "Purpose". It's really hard to have a successful church life without a vision of where to go or a purpose for it. Granted, this book may not cause your church to do a complete 180, but it's a start and a good one at that.

I just finished this for the 2nd time and plan on starting it all over again. I have been putting into practice these principles into the life of the church for over 20 years and seen much MUCH fruit. This time reading it I have committed to brush off the cob webs of the PDC model. I thought that the principles would be outdated since the first time I read this. NO WAY! Still applicable today as when this was first written and when I first read it. I am more committed to building a PDC church now more than ever. If you are a seasoned pastor, someone who is discerning Gods call into ministry, or someone who is just starting out in ministry - this book is a must read and re-read.

I'm giving this as a gift to one of my nephews who has been ordained about a year and is just starting his own church which right now is a small congregation and of course, I feel this book can and will increase his membership as he follows and applies the information provided in the book.

Developed a deeper and richer understanding of God's purpose in my life and the life of other Christ-followers. Have used to teach small groups of Pastor Rick's understanding of God's unique purpose for each follower and identifying and putting into action each persons unique purpose.

This book is not what I ordered!!! I ordered JUST ONE COPY OF "The Purpose Driven Church: Every Church Is Big in God's Eyes by Rick Warren. (1995)" But I got Growth without comprising your message and (the same author but a different book entirely. I JUst don"t understand this. I want the book i ordered.

Practical, biblical, thought provoking, inspirational. Love Rick Warren, his writing and preaching. Just excellent. Highly recommend it for any pastor, church staff, and believer willing to live life on mission.

At the same time, the IRS rules are fairly comples, and home office expenses are often overstated or subject to outright fraud. So the IRS tends to look at them fairly carefully, they have been known to come to your house to see what your office looks like.This book, updated to be current for 2006, explains the rules as written down, the rules as actually followed and gives you some tips as to what you should, shouldn't, must, and mustn't do. Beyond the official rules, which are messy enough, there are more or less unknown rules, i.e. computer software that you buy is written off one way (well actually two or three ways), software you create, either for yourself or for sale, is handled quite differently.This book is well written, simple to read and up to date with current law.

Jennifer Fisher's 2004 dance history takes on a pretty daunting task: to explain the Nutcracker ballet's current status in North America as not only an entrenched Christmas tradition, but also everyone's favorite classical ballet. To accomplish this Fisher did her own field research, somewhat anthropological in nature, spending time with both a major professional company, the National Ballet of Canada, and a much smaller company, the Loudon Ballet in Leesburg, Virginia. (Since Fisher's work covers both the United States and Canada, the title of the book is mildly misleading.) She weaves excerpts from interviews and anecdotes from her time with these companies through and around a historical narrative of the original conception and production of Tchaikovsky's and Ivanov's ballet in St. Petersburg in 1892 (like many works that have become beloved classics, it opened to a mixed reception), followed by a chronicle of its gradual importation and proliferation across the Atlantic. George Balanchine and the New York City Ballet, as one might suspect, play an important role in this latter part of her tale.Along the way the author makes frequently telling points about the neat dovetailing of the ballet's scenario with American traditions and values, and how its appeal to children both as performers and audiences has bolstered its popularity. However, there are also digressions into such topics as the sociological import of the various national dances in the second act and how they have been staged (including in Walt Disney's film Fantasia), diverting but not particularly relevant to the central topic. This impression of looseness is also underscored by the rather casual way in which excerpts from Fisher's own research with the ballet companies are dropped into the narrative. Ultimately, Nutcracker Nation reads like a doctoral dissertation interleaved with popular history. As such it is consistently interesting, but a little disheveled in feel.

Ask many Americans if they ever go to the ballet. "No. Oh no. Ballet? Never."Ask those same Americans when they last saw The Nutcracker. "Last December. We go every year. Love it."And that is why Ms. Fisher's examination of the Nutcracker phenomenon is so interesting. Combining interviews and historical research, she gives us a wonderful account of the diaspora of Russian ballet alumni. The diaspora started with the rise of Communist Russia and the turmoil of World War I, then accelerated from the the pressure of World War II in Europe. It's not just coincidence that the first U.S. performance was in 1934 by the San Francisco Ballet (America's first professional ballet company) and then in 1944 by the New York City Ballet. By the late 1950s, small ballet companies and schools, such as Virginia Ballet Company and School in Fairfax, VA, were starting to offer the Nutcracker as an annual holiday treat. Throw in a little television, a few famous ballet stars, and you find Nutcracker is a perennial holiday phenomenon.This is a readable book even while it is well-researched non-fiction. I recommend it to every parent of a Nutcracker dancer, and to all the Nutcracker alumni who still perk up when they hear the first notes of the overture.I hope this review is helpful.
