I am not much of a reader but have been a TS fan since I was in grade school and a serious fan of Dee himself. I bought his movie and his albums that came out in the 90's... I loved reading this and found it hard to put down. He writes like he talks so I was entertained from the first line. He is honest about everything including about his own character flaws...but if your a true fan you will love his flaws...as it's Dee ,...it's who he is... and he is a solid man, a warrior to be able to survive all the wins and losses in his music career. I never knew. How could we know.. Thanks for sharing your journey to the world.. Your so inspirational and a huge motivator... Sher

I was never a huge Twisted Sister fan, but grew up in the 80's and loved the whole metal scene. I bought this book hoping to get an insight to the whole era, and how the music industry worked back then. Dee delivers on that story, but also delves into many other facets of his personal life, family, relationships, band history, and gives a great glimpse into how driven he was in his quest for superstardom, and what boundaries he overstepped to get what he wanted. Not just about the salad days, either. The rise to fame, life at the top, and the downfall of a multi-platinum band is all revealed, warts and all. He's also not afraid to reveal his inner fears and weaknesses, and his candor is something that a lot of other autobiographical authors should take note of. If only every book was this honest. Very well written. You'll either come away hating him, or admire him for his honesty. I'm sure Dee wouldn't have it any other way. Get this book!!!

Unlike most of the other rock biographies I've read, this one focuses on the actual making of a band, and the ups and downs of the music industry. It's NOT the diary of a madman who spent his entire life getting drunk and high and being a rockstar. What this book DOES contain is introspective and intelligent stories told from a completely sober and sane perspective. I was, and still am a fan of Dee and T.S., and reading this book has solidified my allegiance as an original SMF!!

Very good! Dee writes an honest portrayal of himself, and is not afraid to admit his short-comings both musically and personally. I grew up on Twisted Sister and after the 80's moved on, I never game them another thought. I thought they were just another glam band with a few hits. Dee writes about how he got there and it a really fun ride. Not as zany as some of the other 80's hair metal books but that was because Dee chose to stay out of that most of the time. However he still has seen a lot and he shares it all.At the end, you realize he's a good dude, smart man who made the most of the short career in music and is still riding it today. He is also a family man and it shows. Great job Dee.

I gave this book five stars for a couple of reasons. First of all it is very detailed and well written. The second reason is my god Dee has overcome so many hurdles (careerwise) that he just deserves all the credit he can get! He has worked so hard and though he certainly has lots of ownership (as he admits to) in much of what happened there was a lot that was just bad luck. What an amazing story he shares.I was interested in reading this book because I knew he was best friends with Howard Stern (who I used to love -which has tampered a bit but I still like him) and was curious how that happened (just seemed like an unlikely pairing) and thought Dee's TV show was good. You could tell that he has a wonderful family life. I was fascinated that he had such a great homelife given his career choice - rock star - in particular in heavy metal! And that fact he seemed like he really was faithful and loved his wife. So all those things endeared him to me. The detail was a bit much for me but you definitely got your money's worth. I would have preferred that he finished out his lifestory and removed some of the detail....so when I got to the end I was "disappointed" in that that is what I was anxious to find out....how did he get back on his feet. But I guess you can't fault him for wanting to drag it out so you had to buy the second book. That would be my only "negative" or disappointing feedback. So this book essentially stops in the 90s.

I must admit I've never been a Twisted Sister fan but after hearing Dee on the radio talking about the book it sounded interesting. He is a good writer with the ability to connect to the reader. You find the stories easy to relate to and his self deprecating humor makes the reader empathize with him as a person. You really start to like Dee, whether you know anything about him or not.The most interesting part is the rise and fall of his band and how the record business works from that perspective.This is not the typical rock star book with a collection of "road stories" and self-aggrandizement. It's a true, honest biography and history of Dee's life, loves, triumphs, and tragedies. There are plenty of lessons to be learned and his insight into life is worth the price of the book. A really good read!

I love Dee because he is outspoken, a great entertainer, and hell of a songwriter. I loved this book because it was everything you'd expect to hear from Dee and a whole lot you wouldn't expect. This is a balls out, no-holds barred look into the life of Twisted Sister, and more importantly, the life of the man who is the life Twisted Sister, Dee Snider. Really, if you're a fan of the band, a musician who wants a look inside the creative life of a killer front man, or just interested in seeing what makes Dee tick, this is a great book for you. Very well written (by Dee himself, just ask and he'll tell you). Grab this one and enjoy.

About the Author

Matthew Janda has had an interest in card games his entire life, and began playing poker with friends in high school before playing online cash games in college. While originally studying business economics at UCLA, a game theory course sparked his interest in poker theory and optimal play. After Black Friday in 2011, Matt began transitioning from playing poker to pursuing medicine. He s now a 4th year podiatry student at Samuel Merritt University and studying to be a podiatric surgeon. Overall a good book. Interesting concepts and a lot of good, concise examples (thought I did disagree in a few spots - I'll message the author later to address my concerns). I'm currently a 1/3 2/5 NLH grinder and have already started implementing some of his ideas and concepts. My biggest gripe with this book is the number of typos and in some cases omitted information - this can definitely confuse some of the more beginning players, as you'll need a decent amount of poker knowledge to realize Janda meant something completely different in a few spots. The book is lacks specific information on balancing and when/how to bluff, but definitely offered a lot of insight in terms of bet-sizing and how to play certain streets. If you are an intermediate or advanced player, I'd definitely recommend this book.

Excellent book as expected. Keyword = For Advanced Players Cant see even a casual player having much use for it. Not quite as technical as his 1st book though that seems to be mainly because he assumes you've already read the 1st book and he doesnt waste time rehashing its info but gets straight to the meat of the matter. The kind of book that even on the 3rd, 4th read you pick up concepts you totally missed the times before.

I gave this book 5 stars and its by far the best book out there, but its not for everyone.In saying that, I still recommend buying it and trying to get your head around the principles Janda introduces and it will reasonably cheaply tell you whether you actually have the mental composure for online poker or if you're just kidding yourself. That may seem harsh but this book will give you insight into the thought process of one of the best 'cash zone' poker players out there and its a shame this may be his last installment. My only brush against the book is it came to an end.If you find this book to advanced, but you're determined to improve your game, try reading Ed Millers 'the course', as he will teach you the foundation to cash game at the casino.

I really like this book...70% of the time.

Easier to read than his first book. No math , just concepts. The "new " 2 reasons to bet is an excellent thought streamlining tool. The Pokers Snowie and Piosolver references are useful, especially as to smaller bet sizing and overbets. Hand examples are very thought provoking. Has me wanting to take higher variance, higher profit lines. (Slowly, lol) About to start the second read.

In the book Janda mentions that he tries to make the book beneficial for players of all skill level...witch might sound difficult (if not impossible) to do, but he successfully does it IMO.New players and even some weaker regulars will see how their thought process should look like while playing, witch is more important than any other thing they can possibly learn. They will also learn about relevant key concepts in today's poker game.Regulars and even very good regulars will confirm and simplify (witch is extremely important) what they already know and also get some new ideas for sure...

This is a very conceptual book. While there is not a lot of math in the book, the concept is very math based. It also draws a lot from advanced software. So this is a book for the more advanced player and not for a beginner.

I saw Rick Austin speak at a prepper event. Although the price of this is a little high, it is well worth it. Rick gives very thourow instructions for every phase of building this greenhouse. Besides growing food he also uses it to help heat his house and water. All of this is explained in the book

Read his book on his perennial fruit, vegetable, and herb garden and followed it. Very well done Met Rick at the Prepper Camp 2014 and heard his presentation on their greenhouse. WOW! Again, well though out and a very good use of space! It is the answer if you are stuck in a HOA with restrictions for a greenhouse. Nobody would ever know as it looks like an enclosed porch. Very good investment if interested in year-round food production and free heated water. A must buy!

I could not set this book down. Not just for preppers wanting to shelter in place or TEOTWAWKI or WTSHTF or off-grid living, this book shows how almost any home can made more energy efficient, can be engineered to have rainwater storage, can reuse grey water, provide heat plus growing conditions for daily food. You can take some of the author's personal experience and begin your food independence and water storage in phases. While not strictly a DIY project, some portions are best accomplished by professional contractors for safety and to possibly meet building codes. This is an exciting book filled with concepts that open you eyes to what this author is DOING and is sharing his experiences, both good and could have worked better.

Superb book. Very practical, purposeful,and well thought out in his design of the greenhouse. Very good content. I appreciate being able to glean from another whom has already carried out the process. In fact, I too am currently building my greenhouse modeled after Ricks. Some ways to improve the book regarding layout would have been more of a "recipe list" format, (at least at the start of each chapter) that would make it easier to find the relevant details in each chapter, rather than in the conversation/paragraph format, when one is actually doing the building step-by-step.In some cases, he does explain the why he chose to use certain materials above others, whether sizes, quantity, or type. In other cases, he does not, and so that makes it difficult to know when I am having to substitute a material or thickness, how much will this make my greenhouse less efficient or more expensive/or less costly.Despite the fact that i am not typically a visual person, the detailed full color photos are an indispensable component of this how to book, since many of the materials to purchase, and layout of the greenhouse are not common like in a traditional greenhouse. So, I am glad to pay a bit more to have the critical photos to help me along in my building process. Rick, thanks for taking the time to put this book together to share your greenhouse idea.

Lots of pictures and that is helpful to the novice. I would like to read more on the actual plantings used in the Northeast US. Overall there were some good ideas.

I appreciate the in depth attention to why he does what he does. It is almost more important than what he built.

Easy to read and quite illustrative. A real good read. The author know what he is talking about. Must for people in the luxury business.

Very interesring new aproach abou the Luxury sector

Of all the books that exist on this subject, this is one of the few insightful and well written texts with unique interviews and good depth of analysis. So far, the 'must-reads' in this field have been Kapferer & Bastien's 'the Luxury Strategy' and HAUTeLUXE.net's 12 steps[...]and Meta-Luxury should be added to the list. Of course if you read French, add ex-Hermes' Director, Christian Blanckaert's "Luxe". Most surprisingly is that Rebecca Robins, co-author of Meta-Luxury is a top dog at Interbrand that tends to rank luxury brands on popularity instead of reputation and excellence, but we see that they do indeed understand the fundamentals of authentic luxury and like many in the field, also share a dislike for the abused word, Luxury. Meta-Luxury is a good new description to match Haut Luxe in French and the authors support the term very well with their four pillars of luxury and especially their term, "the Culture of Excellence". They explain well the differences between the business-driven mass Luxury Brands and the unique achievement-driven Meta-Luxury marques. My slight disappointment was the overemphasis on craftsmanship relative to creativity, the artisan versus the artist/artisan. Vision is critical in this field but the interview with Pagani covers this quite nicely. My major disappointment was that by the time I had reached page 70, the entire chunk of pp 23 to 42 dropped out of the book and now I'll have to glue them back in again! Incredible! If you cant wait for the paperback, get this book anyway. Its the content that counts. My sincere thanks to the authors.

Manfredi Ricca and Rebecca Robins' book, Meta-luxury: Brands and the Culture of Excellence, is as beautiful as it is well-written. The authors use the term "meta-luxury" to define those brands that "escape the cliches of so-called luxury" and exist a world of "luxury beyond luxury." The book is chock full of insights from business leaders, creative geniuses, and academics. As such, it is a tremendous value add for any business leader who is creating or managing a luxury brand in today's fast-moving global marketplace.

I would strongly recommend this book to the professionals within the luxury industry who work for/with long-established meta-luxury brands. Reading this book was meta-luxurious experience in and of itself. Those who forgot the meaning of the ancient Latin phrase Quam Bene Non Quantum, add this book to your library.
