This is an excellent companion to THE book (Domain-Driven Design: Tackling Complexity in the Heart of Software). The other book is very dense and takes a fair bit of effort to understand all the underlying ideas and how to translate them to implementation. This reference book is a clear summary to make sure that the entire team uses the same language for the process. Using the same terminology is critical for the success of any project, and this book can be used as a baseline for developers and customers as they work through the actual domain design process together to understand the business problem at hand. It's an easy read that stays out of any technical implementation details.

Every developer should read the Eric Evans classic on Domain Driven Design. The this companoin is great to have deskside.

I got this for free at a workshop with Eric Evans. There's nothing here that isn't in his main book, but it's a great, handy reference when looking up an idea. Most importantly, and why I gave it 5 stars, is that it's a fantastic way to get someone to read about DDD, folks that are important to the DDD process that would read an overview, but wouldn't read the full DDD tome.

I live in Oregon, and right now there is an increasing risk of earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis in the state. If it’s going to happen I might as well know what to do. (I guess it also counts as studying world history.) The author did a fantastic job of compiling information and photographs to support the main event of each chapter. It was interesting that several of the events I had never even heard of. The book showed me that government tended to blame foreigners or minorities for the disasters, even when sometimes it was unknowingly of their own doing. Another thing that surprised me was that the disasters that took more lives were not volcanoes or earthquakes. More often than not, it was sickness, or an outbreak of a disease. (The Bubonic Plague, for example, killed about 1/3 of Europe’s population.) When the volcanoes and earthquakes did happen, they usually gave weeks or even months of warning, and the most damage happened when people did not evacuate. (That’s one piece of information I can use! When they tell me to evacuate, I will!) I really enjoyed this book and I hope other readers will, too. I would recommend it for ages 12 and up. Elloren remains at the University in Verpax, still sheltering Marina, a rescued Selkie, and rooming with her friends, Diana, a Lupine, and Wynter, and Ariel, who are Icarals. She still resists being wandfasted to Lukas Grey. And she is still drawn to the mysterious Yvan Guriel, who she's beginning to think is hiding more than she previously realized. Her affinity lines continue to strengthen and her feel for power moves beyond just earth and fire. While her friend Amaz friend, Andras, and Ariel try to heal the rescued military dragon Naga, and Elloren ponders how to help her friend Tierney escape Council-mandated wandfasting and iron-testing, the unthinkable happens. Overnight, Marcus Vogel becomes High Mage on the Gardnerian Council and events are set into motion that will change Erthia forever. If you thought the sexism, racism, and hatred were bad before, you haven't seen anything yet. Pogroms, genocide, and other atrocities begin to occur, all with the horrifying support of Elloren, Rafe and Trystan's despicable Aunt Vyvian. Most importantly, the Shadow Wand appears at last. Its bearer comes as no surprise.Against this backdrop of terror, with Mage Council Rulings one after another, each viler than the last, the Gardnerian Mage Council is poised to pass Vyvian's edict that would result in the execution of all Selkies. Meanwhile, Elloren is shocked to find that Marina is learning to speak the Common Tongue and has quite a lot to say. Elloren also finds out that her childhood friend Gareth has Selkie heritage, and that even in a university town like Verpax there is a terrible sex-trafficking trade in Selkies. Someone needs to help the Selkies but that would mean returning them to the ocean with their skins. Marina needs the help of Elloren and her friends to rescue the captive Selkies but how on Erthia is the task to be accomplished? It's going to require far more power than this group of student dissidents has at their disposal.To try to find aid, Elloren is willing to risk leaving Verpacia in order to seek assistance for the Selkies in neighboring realms who are harboring other threatened groups like the Urisks, Fae, Kelts, and Smaragdalfen. While in Amaz she encounters her friend Sage, the Light Mage who gave her the White Wand, and who broke her wandfasting vows. Sage is hard at work trying to break the wandfasting spell that keeps her in constant pain, dulled to bearable levels by Amazian rune magic. (A point I can already see is going to be vitally important to Gardnerian women's future. I can think of more than a few wandfastings that need to be broken ASAP.) Elloren ponders yet again what role she can play in opposing Vogel. As the action ramps up, she finds herself having to make the hard choice to appear more Gardnerian in order to best help her friends. That path is fraught with danger since she looks so much like her infamous grandmother, the Black Witch, but appears to have none of the actual power of Carnissa Gardner to safeguard herself. Elloren is equal to the task as she begins to fight for everything she believes in. There are sorrows and losses in this book, but they only strengthen Elloren's resolve.While I enjoyed this second book, I did feel that some of the plot points were less smoothly handled. There were plenty of further daring adventures with the varied band of friends. (Elloren's journeys, especially to Amaz, were fascinating. Forest's world building is just terrific. Even her choice of names provides delight.) There was also genuine horror. But I was less enamored of the love interest dynamic in this book and thought that if Elloren and her paramour said just one more time that they couldn't, shouldn't be together I was going to pass out from all the eye-rolling I was doing. We all knew how this was going to go and a good hundred plus pages of "we shouldn't, oops! we can't, oops!" was getting mighty old by the end. Also, the two big reveals of the book come in such short order, in the last twenty pages of the book, and at least one of them just felt unrealistic, since if Elloren saw him so unguarded, anyone could have? The other, well... if you haven't been expecting that since the beginning of the first book, you haven't been paying attention. I guess I was just expecting something with a bit more gravitas and I'm still wondering how it never happened before (because spoilers).Many things are still unresolved, not least of which is what Jules and Lucretia aren't telling Elloren about the fate of her parents. They clearly know something that Elloren and her brothers don't. And I have a few other questions, especially about that famous prophecy. Don't you ever wonder why the prophecy doesn't say anything about the White Wand and the Shadow Wand? I do. I want to read original prophecy and know more about who prophesied it. Because if history is written by the victors, it seems like prophecies are subject to the same kind of bias.The Black Witch Chronicles continues to be a series that encourages young people to learn as much as they can about everything and everyone they can and to fight for what is right, while being pragmatic enough to know when they'll need help doing so."The Wand knows you have her power in your blood. Elloren and her new friends defy her powerful aunt, who supports the new regime, and find themselves in a desperate race to save classmates, professors, roommates, and friends from the ethnic cleansing that threatens the peace of the world. This novel comes alive, and readers are entranced by powerful attractions and simmering intrigues and prejudices that interfere with the course of true love, and at the same time we are outraged and hurt by the cruelties and casualties of the battle for political supremacy. Characters are complex, diverse, and nuanced. The story is left hanging, and I am certain many readers will pounce upon the next installment as soon as it is published!

I just finished reading this 9-book series by Janet Dawson... LOVED IT!! Just absolutely wonderful writing! The story line was never dull, the characters just came to life. Ms. Dawson has a great way of describing things so that you feel like you're right there in the place she's describing; and you can just see the people after she's done with them. I think the character Jeri Howard is great... I was sad when I got done with the 9th book because there were no more!! Looking forward to HOPEFULLY more books in this series. Thank you, Ms. Dawson for a great read and a great ride!!

Reading these stories reminds me of being back in high school. Remember those times you had to write a ten page report but only had three pages of worthwhile material. Somehow you managed to fill ten pages.The author writes good short stories, then fills the pages to turn them into novels.Whatever works.

Jeri Howard is an investigator that doesn't give up. She keeps working on the problem until she finds the answer. This is a good series. Some of the characters follow up in future books and you feel as if they are friends. There are a few editing issues, but not enough to be distracting. There is foul language here and there, but not overly so. Overall, I enjoyed reading each of these mysteries.

The Jeri Howard series is wonderful reading if you're a lover of mysteries and of detective stories. Suspenseful and mysterious, fast paced and so very well written. Janet Dawson's name should be included in the same sentence as any of the top writers of the detective genre. So glad I got these and will add them to the list of books worth re-reading.

The mysteries were good. My biggest problem was too much information. If you are interested in history of A particular ethnic group, the food canning industry, horse racing, etc., you might be enthralled. There many parts very boring while I did enjoy the action between characters and how the mysteries were solved.

A little too many words sometimes, describing surrounding, but overall a good easy detective story. While investigated we get to watch Jerri's personal all life change as she makes a sort of peace with her Mother and kinda gets a steady male friend. Overall, pretty enjoyable. Because there are none books it took me awhile to finish, as I read other things in between to take a break.

These books are extremely good. Aside from a relatively few editing glitches and a little swearing, I can't find much to complain about. The author is good at describing everything so you feel as if you were there with her. It helps, of course, if you happen to have spent most of your life in the Bay area where these books are set. My parents spent 31 years in a house in Alameda (in fact 2 streets over from where Jeri's parents lived). I have loved following her all over Alameda, Oakland, and all outlying areas that are so familiar to me. Jeri is a sharp investigator and very likable, and some of the characters follow her in subsequent books so someone familiar is always popping up. The cases are well plotted and these books are a real pleasure to read!

Unusually fine writing combines with believable characters and solid plots, along with settings that almost become characters themselves, to produce novels that are among the best available. My husband, himself a writer from San Francisco, is impressed with Dawson's ability to welcome the reader into the world she clearly knows so well. Recommended for all readers who want really good books.

Grandkids love the book. It is great for the grandkids as a bedtime story, nice to have Biblical stories for the children at this age.(They are under 4) It is hardbound so they cannot rip it. It is colorful, and is short which holds their attention.

I’m a big fan of the five minute Bible stories book series, and this one didn’t disappoint. It was a very concise, but accurate, telling of Jesus is life. Perfect for a youngster with a short attention span.
