Ok, I don't usually like scary books, but I like Ocean's stuff so I read it. It was much scarier than I thought it would be. Sure there was some humor and some voodoo and quite a few scary dollies. Maybe some scary clowns and well, who am I kidding, it scared the crap out of me. It was well written and I was totally immersed in the story. I actually felt like I was on the island and I wanted to smack the crap out of Devin for being such a jerk. I did like how Rosie was able to embody a warrior for a minute but well, she does knit. This is one of the best books I've read in a very long time, even If I won't sleep tonight. I wouldn't be surprised if was up for some awards, it's that good.

This is one of those books you just know you're going to really get into right from the opening chapters. And it holds you in its grasp even after finishing it. This is one of those books you don't want to see end. This book needs a sequel - it begs for a sequel - not because the ending isn't done well (it was done very well), but because you just need more of the characters and their story. This book is full of great character development throughout, great scene setting, a pleasant mix of creep-factor, irony, comedy, emotional drama, and suspense, and the pace is perfect. This book was a great adventure. You could really feel, smell, and see what was going on in this story - the author just puts you right in the world she created. I really hope the author gives us a sequel.

When I was a kid I loved watching campy horror movies. I loved the fun it brought. There were some legitimately horrifying moments, but the camp element provided a balance so you wouldn't be scarred for life. That’s what this novel brought me. The Curse of Doll Island is an entertaining read with hundreds of creepy dolls…and clowns.I really enjoyed the way the setting was written. The imagery was excellent and the tone clear. Plus, there were moments that were laugh out loud funny because of how vivid the scene played out in my mind. This was the first novel I've read from this author and I'm excited to read more.

😄I don't know what to say. I read this book in one day. I couldn't put it down. I will never look at a doll again with out thinking of this book. I swear I was reading a Stephen king book. I was on the edge of my seat. Pleaseee Ocean when need a sequel. I definitely recommend this book.

I beleive that this is a paranormal book. Suspenseful but not gory. A real page turner. You can picture Devin and Rosie on the island thru the wonderful writing. Excellent book. Recommend to anyone.

Ocean manages to pull her readers into a story full of high anticipation and full of suspenseful thrills with a multitude of jaw dropping moments! From a love story built on doubt to one of trust, this piece of work must lead to a sequel. Ocean continues to deliver and share her creativity through different genres. This is a paranormal thriller that does not disappoint. I highly recommend The Curse of Doll Island: A Paranormal Suspense Thriller!

I LOVED this book by Ocean! It was a cliffhanger for sure...I hope she writes more of the same genre. Very talented writer. An exciting story that keeps you turning page after page!

Yes, the book cover was what made me wanna read this book in the first place. I was hypnotised by the creepiness of the clown face and.....those blasted DOLLS!!! *shudder*Needless to say, I ended up breezing through this book in no time...Phew! What a MAD thrill of a ride it was! Jesus Christ! *shudder*Upon reading the first act of "The Curse of Doll Island," I was immediately reminded of me reading experience of Stephen King's books - dark with a looming sense of doom ahead, the mention of curses, black magic (voodoo), the cloud of secrecy, mystery and intrigue of said urban legends...I loved the fact that Ocean began the story with a flashback, the history of how this story came to be centuries later. Me mind was filled with all theories about how the story would unfold thereafter. Then Ocean introduced us to the two protagonists, whom I'd describe as horror movie-typical lead characters. One was a good-looking maverick, cocky albeit charming, the absolute non-believer in the metaphysical entities, who defied warnings and barged onto the place they were warned off of, irresponsibly dragging along the other lead who was the polar opposite, in character and life, in general. Then “schtuff” happened. Obviously. Usher in the horrors!OMG. Top marks for Ocean's ability to make me feel the same feeling like I was watching a horror movie - restlessness, frustration, anger, concern, pulse-racing excitement, hair-raising creepiness, growing stress, nervous laughter, and the constant need to shout at the protags, "Run!", "Don't!", "What the bleedin' hell are you doing?!". I wanted to wallop Devin for being endlessly insensitive toward Rosie's fears, as she charmingly coaxed her reluctant companion into mad situations that went from bad to worse by the minute until they were both facing life-and-death, no thanks to reckless Devin who obviously had a death wish or something! And then Ocean nonchalantly sprang a surprise on me with Devin's past that explained why she was behaving like she was. Needless to say, the cause and effect of her actions, past and present, made the whole dire situation she and Rosie were trapped in all the more engaging. Now what would add to the stress and terror-inducing situation that Ocean had already put Rosie and Devin (PLUS the reader!) in, you might ask. Well, 3 words. Blair. Witch. Project. If you'd watched the movie, you'll know what I'm getting at. Yup, videocam shots. I could literally feel the jumpy, jittery camera movements with Ocean's descriptive scenarios whilst Devin and Rosie struggled to manoeuvre through the terrifying maze! If you think that was it, think again.DOLLS. Aaarghh!!! I absolutely loved how Ocean introduced the dolls. It was a drip-drip style. One. Then two. Then... Now THAT's how you conjure up suspense. Pure unadulterated eerie, chilling suspense! And then...bloody hell! CHUCKY!!!!!! Jeepers creepers! The attack of a hundred Chuckies, more like! In "The Walking Dead" style! The final act was something out of a creepy movie as Devin and Rosie's life-or-death escapade reached its fever pitch, thanks to Ocean's vivid, visual description of all the steps they had to take. It was like an obstacle course, really! All the death-defying climbing, falling, mud-drenching, not to mention, bleedin' carnivorous animals coming out of the woodwork trying to either chomp or squeeze these poor women to death! I felt so very sorry for poor Rosie! At least Devin was used to outdoor, mad-cap activities but Rosie...just imagine an introverted, bookish, nerd, who spent most of her life indoor suddenly being thrust into not just any outdoor activity, but a series of death hoops requiring every ounce of physical exertion that she wasn't used to but had no choice but to jump through if she wanted to stay alive! Ocean's ability to put all of her emotions, all the pulse-racing, heart-thumping actions into expressive words truly resonated. I was at the edge of me seat throughout their entire mad dash race to safety!I would be remiss if I didn't mention this unusual discovery of mine whilst reading this book. And that is, me favourite characters were not the protagonists, but the two very compelling, intriguing secondary characters. The nuns. Yup. I was surprised that I was drawn to them as soon as they met Devin and Rosie! As their characters progressed throughout Devin and Rosie's journey, I loved them more and more! They were funny, adorable and charming with a tinge of mischief and they were intriguingly mysterious, which made them even more interesting! How they tried to help Devin and Rosie was fun and thrilling! I can't divulge anymore about these adorable nuns because you have to read and discover them yourself! And then there was the ending. What an absolutely fantastic true-to-horror ending! Honestly, it could have ended with what I thought it would because...well... but I was hoping against hope it wouldn't because it wouldn't have given me the satisfaction that I wanted from this story. And...surprise sur-bloody-prise! I got me wish! YES! Ocean's twisted ending surprise had me practically jumping with joy! HA! I can't reveal anything here, obviously, so you'll just have to ride this mad adventure/escapade and make your own judgement! I absolutely loved how it ended and NOT what I dreaded it would! Phew! YAY! 2 words: Full Circle. That's all I'm gonna say about it!All in all, "The Curse of Doll Island" is one of the most fun and thrilling adventure horror reads I've experienced. Pure action-adventure/thriller doused in paranormal creepiness and a bit of humour. Well, horror humour, more like! But I won't put it as "horror" so much as creepy. Yup, creepy. Like "It" or "Chucky" creepy.Read it. Feel the perverse, insidious ghoulishness of it all. Embrace the shudder. Enjoy the WILD ride!

Review

Praise for Ada's Algorithm“[An] engrossing biography."—New York Times Book Review“A tantalizing topic… The story of a society proceeding irrevocably but ambivalently into the modern age, enthralled by advances in science and technology, adapting to new social mores, and yet still beholden to many antiquated traditions.”—Wall Street Journal“Essinger is a terrific storyteller, and he knows a great story when he sees it. Ada’s Algorithm is a riveting read."—American Scientist“Irresistible ... If more people could have understood Babbage's machine the way Lovelace did — indeed, if they had not all but ignored her paper, perhaps because the author was a woman — computing might have had a far earlier start."—Chicago Tribune“A revealing firsthand look into Ada’s life and her relationship with Babbage, relying heavily on their journal entries and letters to each other… One of the most innovative minds of the 19th century.”—Boston Globe“A fine new Lovelace biography… We need her as a symbol…of all the women who have contributed to the progress of science and technology, and of all the women who might have contributed if given the chance.”—Slate“A portrait of a particularly fascinating woman." —Jezebel“A window on the life of one of the world's first celebrity scientists."—io9“An absorbing account of a woman who was far ahead of her time."—Bust“The biography contains just the kind of moments of triumph I like to read about: Ada overcoming obstacles to get an education and make genius contributions to science."—Bitch Magazine, Gift Guide for Science Nerds“The title says it all. Badass tech ladies rule."—Book Riot, Liberty Hardy (RiverRun Bookstore) picks 2014's Must-Read Books from Indie Presses“Readers are treated to an intimate portrait of Lovelace’s short but significant life along with an abbreviated history of 19th-century high-society London." —New CriterionOne of the AV Club's Notable Releases for October“If you want to focus on just one singular genius, start with this story. It’s about a woman who was born to notoriety, as Lord Byron’s daughter, who ended up writing the first computer program and changing the world." —Flavorwire, Must-Reads for October“Essinger describes [Lovelace's] life with obvious respect, perhaps admiration, but also with a careful sense of journalistic objectivity and precision." —Geeky Library“Stepping out of the long shadow of Lord Byron's legacy, Essinger follows the visionary mind of Lovelace as she, applying her educated mind to the 'Analytical Engine,' creates the first recognized algorithm and casts a shadow on modern technology as long as her father's on poetry." —Biographile“Ada Lovelace's vision has an indelible power, and we can learn so much from it almost 200 years later. In the mechanics of weaving machines, young Ada saw a new age for creative technology; the energy and passion in her letters is completely infectious! Essinger's absorbing and well-crafted book will no doubt inspire other women in tech, or anyone who sees in one small motion the potential to change the world.” —Reshma Saujani, founder of Girls Who Code and author of Women Who Don't Wait in Line“Entertaining and illuminating.”—Times Literary Supplement (UK) “Essinger displays not only verve and affection . . . but also great scholarship.” —Times Educational Supplement (UK)“[Essinger] presents Ada’s story with great enthusiasm and rich detail… Ada continues to inspire, and by using her own voice via letters and research, the author brings her to life for a new generation of intrepid female innovators. A robust, engaging and exciting biography." —Kirkus ReviewsA Library Journal Editor's Pick for Fall 2014One of Publishers Weekly's Big Indie Books of Fall 2014“Absorbing... Essinger’s tome is undergirded by academic research, but it is the author’s prose, both graceful and confident, that will draw in a general readership. Readers are treated to an intimate portrait of Lovelace’s short but significant life...along with an abbreviated history of 19th-century high-society London." —Publishers Weekly“The author provides an engaging...look at [Lovelace's] parents’ romance, her childhood, her lifelong fascination with mathematics, and, mostly, her friendship with [Charles Babbage]." —BooklistPraise for Jacquard’s Web by James Essinger “Essinger tells his story with passion and with a gracious willingness to help the lay reader grasp the intricacies of technology.”  —Wall Street Journal

I chose this book only as a general biography of Ada Lovelace since I know nothing about science or mathematics and have no interest in them. This book gives full justice to a woman of astonishing intellect and immense consequence for the modern world as one who foresaw and even diligently worked out how a computer could be constructed. The author states that it is "abundantly reasonable to describe her as a genius."Until her death at the age of thirty-three, she co-operated closely with Charles Babbage in planning such a machine, and it was her brilliant mind that found new ways of thinking about the problems presented. It is true that the reader gleans a significant understanding of the cooperation of Ada Lovelace and Charles Babbage in the working out of the principles behind a computer and of Ada's leading role in the enterprise. So that insight alone makes this recital of the details worth the reader's time. But there is also an interesting and full account of the role played by the Jacquard loom in the inspiration for the Babbage prototype. For an understanding of Babbage's difficulties in developing his prototype this book will no doubt answer your questions. One surprising revelation for me was the true character of her mother, Lord Byron's widow. This woman's miserable nature is revealed in the final agonizing days of her gifted daughter. No wonder Ada chose to be buried beside her father, where her mother would never intrude. (After writing this, I read the much, much better book -- the biography of Ada's mother, "Lady Byron and Her Daughters" by Julia Markus -- which exonerates Lady Byron of all the old accusations and prejudices leveled against her. I highly recommend that book.)Unfortunately this book is poorly edited; there are missing words which radically affect the meaning of several important sentences. I would say that the editing, if there was any, was extremely sloppy. Also because of its careless style, I cannot rank this book beyond three stars. It is often a frustrating read.

I really wanted to love this book since Ada Lovelace was such a fascinating person. Unfortunately, the editing is terrible and the passages quoted throughout generally don't add value. Sentences ramble and ideas circle around, sometimes returning to the original thought. The author includes a lot of unnecessary details about Ada's grandparents' and parents' sex lives for the first third of the book for reasons I can't begin to understand. It reads like an essay for a college assignment that just went on too long. A missed opportunity.

I love the book and the premise. However, I think the author spends too much time defending Ada's reputation and gets sidetracked on many of the ancillary characters in her life. The back story on Lord Byron alone though was worth the read. I wished he had spent more time on Ada's papers than was given, but I guess if you are really interested, it may be better to read Ada's papers directly. I know it is on my to do list now.

After I began to read this book I had to attend to a project which took a while. At first, it took a while to get into the book but when I began to read it again, it was very interesting. I almost wanted to reread some 19th century history to fill in some blanks. If you like history and appreciate math, you'll enjoy this book. It didn't hurt to be watching the Masterpiece series, Victoria, on PBS. although each is a complete work, they complement each other nicely.

I was interested by the historical setting and description of the ideas of Ada and Babbage. The book was overshadowed by the very sad story of Ada's personal life.In particular the story of her last illness was really harrowing. I think we often forget, in feeling nostalgia for the past, what life was like for people unlucky enough to get sick.Ada suffered a prolongued illness and eventually death from uterine cancer. This was at a time when pain-killing medication could only be taken by mouth rather than IV injections. The illness caused her to bleed frequently. This was at a time when modern women's sanitary products were not available.

The title is utterly misleading, I was looking for her contributions to programming; I ended up reading a compilation of references and personal opinions.

Could have covered concept in 1/2 the words. Spends too much time on her father. Almost no content on her actual work.

I adored this book. Essinger managed to incorporate context into Ada's tale, something that so many people fail to do when they're hung up on one particular story. I learned so much. It's very inspiration for people learning to code today.

I really enjoyed this book. It is written just like other books from the Wings of Fire series, and I would consider this book to be a prequel to the rest of the series. It's also quite funny. I really liked it, and would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in the rest of the series.

My kid wanted this series. I was intrigued and have read all in this series. Just finished this book last night. I was enchanted by the backstory. This leads you up to how the series is unfolding giving you some wonderful background history of how and why things have come to be. I couldn't put the book down. I am enjoying the easy writing style, the stories of the characters, the wit, the fun and just everything about this group of books. If you enjoy a nice easy read, enjoy dragons with flair and character, Tui T. Sutherland has done a great job of bringing the personalities through in the way it's written and you really feel like you are immersed in the books as you are reading. You don't want it to end. You want the next one NOW.Maybe I should have waited until they were ALL released and just sat down for a major binge reading session!Dragon want next book NOW!

My son loves this series, and before he knew there was a pre-store about Darkstalker, he asked about it. I suppose the series hinted about it. So, we surprised him with it for his birthday (9), and of course, he read it through in a couple of hours, and loved it.I hope the information I have presented helps you to make an informed decision! If so, please vote by replying Yes to "Was this review helpful." Thank you!

Warning: If you read this book, you WILL want to read it again! This book was so good and amazing and oh my gosh! If you think this book looks good, then it's almost like you can PREDICT the FUTURE!!! I know, making book references inside the review for that same book is cheesy, but I saw the chance and took it. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

(Awesome dragon-loving sixth grade bookworm speaking!!) Wings Of Fire itself is an amazing series. And this book about Darkstalker has completely surpassed my expectations! Do you like dragons? Adventure? Murder mysteries and betrayals? Then this book is POSITIVELY PERFECT FOR YOU!!!!!😄📖 This prequal, like all the other AWESOME Wings Of Fire books, has binding that is bursting with complicated characters, plot twists, sad romance stories, and, of course, DRAGONS!!!😆🐲 Also like all the other books, it's written from the point of view of a dragon(YAY), and it gets pretty violent, which, may I add, is one of my FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT THIS BOOK! Well that and the fact that it's about dragons. :3 I'm saying the word dragons a lot aren't I?😁 Well I like dragons!! A lot of people say Wings Of Fire is too violent, and, according to one review, "Should not be read by anyone under the age of thirteen". Pffffft. It's not THAT violent. I mean, this is just my opinion, but I think you might want to read it with your kid if they're seven or eightish. And on top of that I personally LIKE violent books in general. Well not VIOLENT. Here's what I like in a book: I like drama and dragons and fantasy, so when you put all that together you a get a pretty bloody novel. So that's my opinion of Wings Of Fire. IT IS AMAZING THANKS YOU TUI SUTHERLAND I DONT KNOW WHAT I WOULD READ WITHOUT YOU!!!

I love the Wings of Fire books!! And this book was no exception! And I'm not even done with the book! I'm at page 293 though. But this book has just the right amount of plot themes all over the book! It's filled with excitement, tragity, love, mystery, and a sense of calm. I also liked this book because it was WAY less predicable than the first five of the prophecy. I think it was because of not having a "over hanging" prophecy which frankly made those books a little predicable:( So this book had me sitting at the edge of my seat the whole time, around every corner! This also answered a lot of my questions about animus dragons, and darkstalker. The book really helped me understand how darkstalker grew up and who clearssight was! And how she had came to the point of betraying darkstalker. SPOILER ALERT Fathom's part was also the best! I loved how he was in love with Indigo and how he was forced to abondon her when she was a big part of his life because he could not offer Indigo dragonets or even marrying. I was really heart broken when Indigo left Fathom, it was getting so good! I liked how after she leftt Fathom kept the carving of Indigo after she left. END SPOILER ALERT All in all anyone who sees this review should not even hesitate to get the book. I hope that the book will not end in a cliff hanger though! But I think it would be cool to continue the "Legends" branch of the series! I even have a few ideas! AWEOSME BOOK!!!!

I was hoping this book would be helpful in explaining how better to prepare letter to outside auditors regarding my clients. Most of the book was not helpful at all. The meat, so to speak, could be in a small pamphlet. Plus this book for a small paperback was quite expensive. I was not satisfied with the product.

Was exactly as described.

I picked this up after I'd already beaten the game, and I'm glad I didn't have the distraction of all the goodies buried in the guide to drag out my already very long campaign.Extremely helpful if you're chasing all of the optional objectives in the chapters. The walk-throughs are immensely detailed, with step-by-step instructions, including pictures, and tips for finishing each Chapter in each play type. Most chapter write-ups are in the Ghost style, avoiding all killing and knock-outs. That doesn't mean that there aren't sidebars to explain how to get through the chapters if you're trying for Opportunist or Predator endings. There are also detailed City walk-throughs, split into 5 sections that match up with where the city undergoes major changes within the game. For example, City I is the city after Chapter I. City II is the city after Chapter 3 (I think... going from memory here!), etc. As you discover areas of the city via the chapter stories, or the city changes because of actions of the chapters, the guide has a City walk-through to guide you.The treasure walk-through is anal-retentively detailed! (Loot, Collectibles, Documents) Everything is numbered, starting at 1 and numbered in an order that makes sense by how you would encounter than in the game. It takes a little getting used to, but once you get it, it is extremely powerful in getting you through to Completionist!I like this guide, so I gave it a 5, however there are some mistakes.Chapter 4 - A Friend in Need. There is a gear that you need to obtain when you're down in the pipeline. The guide tells you to jump down on the 1st unstable platform, and then jump across to the 2nd one, then run across it before it has a chance to fall to the pipe below. That isn't correct! You have to jump down to the 1st unstable platform, and then SNEAK completely across the 2nd platform. It took me about 30 tries to get that stupid little gear!! Save yourself some sanity. If you're going for Predator or Opportunist and dealing with Freaks - don't bother with anything other than Blast Arrows if you plan on killing a Freak directly. One Blast Arrow will down a Freak. However, you will use 2 or more Fire Arrows trying to kill Freaks by shooting them, even using headshots... Even with headshots using the Marksman skill (which uses too much Focus, IMHO). Save the Fire Arrows for those nifty "oil slick" shots that will nab you Opportunist points. And don't even bother with non-fire-based arrows. (Flash Bombs are fun.)The Guide has nothing in it about those eerie candles that you light using Fire Arrows all over Stonemarket. (The glowy talking ones...) From what I've read, once you find all of them, you get a Focus Point. I'm guessing that's why I have 1 Focus Point left to be upgraded and the Queen of Beggars won't let me buy anymore upgrades. Somewhere, I'm missing a candle!A tip, this is in the guide, however not obvious right away as its buried in the walk-throughs... don't waste your expensive arrows on knocking crap down! Use your Blunt Arrows to do that kind of thing. (Lights, ladders, etc.)One thing I wish the Guide had and it doesn't... How to make enough cash to afford the expensive equipment. I'm redoing all of the chapters and side missions, but I've only made about 3 grand. Admittedly, I like to shoot stuff, but with the amount of treasure in some of those chapters, you'd think I'd be making progress...

Been on my wishlist for awhile, happy to have found a decent copy at an affordable price!

This strategy guide is full of errors. I expected more from Prima as their guides have been pretty spot-on in the past. Beyond that, they did a nice job with the item checklists and walking you through the most efficient way to get each piece of loot in the city.

Good intro, shows every level, and the tricks of the game too! Highly recommended to anyone wanting to beat the game with everything getting done in every level.

Very fun guide and written in a playful thought provoking style. The game is awesome and while most guides end up in the trash once the novelty wears off I think this is a keeper.

This was just what I needed. Since I am obsessed with finding everything, and after doing a level so many times a person can get a bit nuts without a little help.

There are numerous errors in the book, everything from incorrectly marked locations to bad advice to completely ignored items/events. When I shell out money for a game guide I expect it to be free of errors and as complete as possible.

Very nice tool to go with the game. It helped me get through some sticky areas.

There was once a prince who set out to plant and nurture seeds that grew into trees in a field near the castle. These weren't ordinary seeds, for each seed represented a spoken word. Some of the seeds--green and promising--grew into lush, vibrant trees just as kind words spread kindness and harmony. The other seeds--dark and nasty--became thorny, spikey grotesque growths just as foul words perpetuate meanness. Of course, the green trees stood as emblems of peace, love, and friendship while the dark trees were reminders of discontent, nastiness, and hatred. It takes a friend to convince the prince--now older--to plant only the green seeds she carries in her satchel. Together, they transform the field into a pleasant environment by cutting down the malicious trees and tossing the dark seeds into the sea. The illustrations provide visual interpretations of nature with its most attractive gifts in contrast with its most repulsive. A gentle fable, the story resembles a mindful meditation on the effects of choosing to spread harmony and peace over negativity and discord through the language we use and the attitudes we assume. A timely, wise, and heartfelt message for children of all ages and their advocates.

Excellent book! I've been looking for more meaningful literature for our kids library and this is just excellently done! We are Minimalists soooo......we are VERY selective on what we bring into our home. This book did not disappoint and is definitely staying! This books doesn't just teach one great lesson, but multiple!

I am a teacher and a mom of an 8 and 6 yo and read this book to my children tonight. We enjoyed the illustrations and the setting of the book. My children and I loved and appreciated the message behind the story and it provided much meaningful discussion between us. (Be sure to read the letter from the author at the beginning of the book before reading the rest of the book, it will help explain the meaning behind the story to your children.) This is a wonderful book that can be used with children to explain the importance of speaking kindly AND how to handle other people's words.

A great picture book with beautiful illustrations and a timeless story about the power of words. Young children are so impressionable and the effects of their childhood experience can have lifelong implications. I remember hearing about a pro baseball player who visited prisons to encourage the men there. He told of how he would play catch with his father who would keep telling him, "Wow, you are going to play in the big leagues someday". Afterwards, a prisoner told him how his father always told him he was no good and he would "end up in prison"!

I absolutely adored the art work and extended metaphor that was used throughout this story! I will be reading this to my nieces when they get older (one is yet to be born, and the other is only 18 months old.) I think metaphors may be lost on them at this age. Haha! I think the only argument that anybody could make against this story is that while negativity can be harmful to our happiness and growth, sometimes it makes those who experience it into better people. However, readers can infer that point if they think about the story not only from the perspective that we should learn to leave good seeds (positive) for people and not bad ones( negative) but from the perspective of the prince and his friend becoming better, helpful people when they deal with the negativity in their life instead of letting it take over. Again, I absolutely loved the presentation of this story!

This is not a book I'd read to a child. It sends the wrong message.

This book showcases the message that dark words said in the past can grow and fester, causing progressive damage for a long time, even hurting the good thoughts and behaviors that you may have. BUT, not all is lost. If you take care of the dark words (seeds), maybe by talking about it with family, friends or a therapist, the dark words spoken to you in the past won't have the same damaging effect and can be eventually replaced by good, positive beliefs.

This book features a young prince as the protagonist. He lives in a castle by the sea. Every day he goes out to collect seeds. The prince soon realizes that some of these seeds become dark seeds, while others remain green. As the trees he plants grow, the dark seeds develop thistles and thorns. The green seeds blossom into beautiful shade trees. The reader comes to understand that the green seeds represent good words that are beautiful and true, while the dark seeds represent harmful, cruel words. As the prince becomes older, he notices that the dark trees are overshadowing the others. One day he meets a young girl who always speaks true and kind words. She carries with her the tools to remove the dark trees. She helps him take care of and nourish the green trees while removing the dark trees. This tale is a beautiful way to teach children the importance of the type of words they use. Harsh words lead to hurt, bullying, and the destruction of good relationships. I would highly recommend this book to parents and teachers of children in elementary and middle school. It provides lots of material for a variety of discussions on behavior and developing good, strong relationships with peers and adults. The illustrations complement the text beautifully.
