Ok, I don't usually like scary books, but I like Ocean's stuff so I read it. It was much scarier than I thought it would be. Sure there was some humor and some voodoo and quite a few scary dollies. Maybe some scary clowns and well, who am I kidding, it scared the crap out of me. It was well written and I was totally immersed in the story. I actually felt like I was on the island and I wanted to smack the crap out of Devin for being such a jerk. I did like how Rosie was able to embody a warrior for a minute but well, she does knit. This is one of the best books I've read in a very long time, even If I won't sleep tonight. I wouldn't be surprised if was up for some awards, it's that good.

This is one of those books you just know you're going to really get into right from the opening chapters. And it holds you in its grasp even after finishing it. This is one of those books you don't want to see end. This book needs a sequel - it begs for a sequel - not because the ending isn't done well (it was done very well), but because you just need more of the characters and their story. This book is full of great character development throughout, great scene setting, a pleasant mix of creep-factor, irony, comedy, emotional drama, and suspense, and the pace is perfect. This book was a great adventure. You could really feel, smell, and see what was going on in this story - the author just puts you right in the world she created. I really hope the author gives us a sequel.

When I was a kid I loved watching campy horror movies. I loved the fun it brought. There were some legitimately horrifying moments, but the camp element provided a balance so you wouldn't be scarred for life. That’s what this novel brought me. The Curse of Doll Island is an entertaining read with hundreds of creepy dolls…and clowns.I really enjoyed the way the setting was written. The imagery was excellent and the tone clear. Plus, there were moments that were laugh out loud funny because of how vivid the scene played out in my mind. This was the first novel I've read from this author and I'm excited to read more.

😄I don't know what to say. I read this book in one day. I couldn't put it down. I will never look at a doll again with out thinking of this book. I swear I was reading a Stephen king book. I was on the edge of my seat. Pleaseee Ocean when need a sequel. I definitely recommend this book.

I beleive that this is a paranormal book. Suspenseful but not gory. A real page turner. You can picture Devin and Rosie on the island thru the wonderful writing. Excellent book. Recommend to anyone.

Ocean manages to pull her readers into a story full of high anticipation and full of suspenseful thrills with a multitude of jaw dropping moments! From a love story built on doubt to one of trust, this piece of work must lead to a sequel. Ocean continues to deliver and share her creativity through different genres. This is a paranormal thriller that does not disappoint. I highly recommend The Curse of Doll Island: A Paranormal Suspense Thriller!

I LOVED this book by Ocean! It was a cliffhanger for sure...I hope she writes more of the same genre. Very talented writer. An exciting story that keeps you turning page after page!

Yes, the book cover was what made me wanna read this book in the first place. I was hypnotised by the creepiness of the clown face and.....those blasted DOLLS!!! *shudder*Needless to say, I ended up breezing through this book in no time...Phew! What a MAD thrill of a ride it was! Jesus Christ! *shudder*Upon reading the first act of "The Curse of Doll Island," I was immediately reminded of me reading experience of Stephen King's books - dark with a looming sense of doom ahead, the mention of curses, black magic (voodoo), the cloud of secrecy, mystery and intrigue of said urban legends...I loved the fact that Ocean began the story with a flashback, the history of how this story came to be centuries later. Me mind was filled with all theories about how the story would unfold thereafter. Then Ocean introduced us to the two protagonists, whom I'd describe as horror movie-typical lead characters. One was a good-looking maverick, cocky albeit charming, the absolute non-believer in the metaphysical entities, who defied warnings and barged onto the place they were warned off of, irresponsibly dragging along the other lead who was the polar opposite, in character and life, in general. Then “schtuff” happened. Obviously. Usher in the horrors!OMG. Top marks for Ocean's ability to make me feel the same feeling like I was watching a horror movie - restlessness, frustration, anger, concern, pulse-racing excitement, hair-raising creepiness, growing stress, nervous laughter, and the constant need to shout at the protags, "Run!", "Don't!", "What the bleedin' hell are you doing?!". I wanted to wallop Devin for being endlessly insensitive toward Rosie's fears, as she charmingly coaxed her reluctant companion into mad situations that went from bad to worse by the minute until they were both facing life-and-death, no thanks to reckless Devin who obviously had a death wish or something! And then Ocean nonchalantly sprang a surprise on me with Devin's past that explained why she was behaving like she was. Needless to say, the cause and effect of her actions, past and present, made the whole dire situation she and Rosie were trapped in all the more engaging. Now what would add to the stress and terror-inducing situation that Ocean had already put Rosie and Devin (PLUS the reader!) in, you might ask. Well, 3 words. Blair. Witch. Project. If you'd watched the movie, you'll know what I'm getting at. Yup, videocam shots. I could literally feel the jumpy, jittery camera movements with Ocean's descriptive scenarios whilst Devin and Rosie struggled to manoeuvre through the terrifying maze! If you think that was it, think again.DOLLS. Aaarghh!!! I absolutely loved how Ocean introduced the dolls. It was a drip-drip style. One. Then two. Then... Now THAT's how you conjure up suspense. Pure unadulterated eerie, chilling suspense! And then...bloody hell! CHUCKY!!!!!! Jeepers creepers! The attack of a hundred Chuckies, more like! In "The Walking Dead" style! The final act was something out of a creepy movie as Devin and Rosie's life-or-death escapade reached its fever pitch, thanks to Ocean's vivid, visual description of all the steps they had to take. It was like an obstacle course, really! All the death-defying climbing, falling, mud-drenching, not to mention, bleedin' carnivorous animals coming out of the woodwork trying to either chomp or squeeze these poor women to death! I felt so very sorry for poor Rosie! At least Devin was used to outdoor, mad-cap activities but Rosie...just imagine an introverted, bookish, nerd, who spent most of her life indoor suddenly being thrust into not just any outdoor activity, but a series of death hoops requiring every ounce of physical exertion that she wasn't used to but had no choice but to jump through if she wanted to stay alive! Ocean's ability to put all of her emotions, all the pulse-racing, heart-thumping actions into expressive words truly resonated. I was at the edge of me seat throughout their entire mad dash race to safety!I would be remiss if I didn't mention this unusual discovery of mine whilst reading this book. And that is, me favourite characters were not the protagonists, but the two very compelling, intriguing secondary characters. The nuns. Yup. I was surprised that I was drawn to them as soon as they met Devin and Rosie! As their characters progressed throughout Devin and Rosie's journey, I loved them more and more! They were funny, adorable and charming with a tinge of mischief and they were intriguingly mysterious, which made them even more interesting! How they tried to help Devin and Rosie was fun and thrilling! I can't divulge anymore about these adorable nuns because you have to read and discover them yourself! And then there was the ending. What an absolutely fantastic true-to-horror ending! Honestly, it could have ended with what I thought it would because...well... but I was hoping against hope it wouldn't because it wouldn't have given me the satisfaction that I wanted from this story. And...surprise sur-bloody-prise! I got me wish! YES! Ocean's twisted ending surprise had me practically jumping with joy! HA! I can't reveal anything here, obviously, so you'll just have to ride this mad adventure/escapade and make your own judgement! I absolutely loved how it ended and NOT what I dreaded it would! Phew! YAY! 2 words: Full Circle. That's all I'm gonna say about it!All in all, "The Curse of Doll Island" is one of the most fun and thrilling adventure horror reads I've experienced. Pure action-adventure/thriller doused in paranormal creepiness and a bit of humour. Well, horror humour, more like! But I won't put it as "horror" so much as creepy. Yup, creepy. Like "It" or "Chucky" creepy.Read it. Feel the perverse, insidious ghoulishness of it all. Embrace the shudder. Enjoy the WILD ride!
